It's funny as children we all aspire to be something great when we grow up. We wanted to be someone who was going to change the world in some way or another. Some of us were going to be super heroes, some police officers, fire fighters, doctors, nurses. Some wanted to be an all pro running back, or the all star quarterback, even the last second jump shot maker for the Chicago Bulls. How about the penalty shot maker in the World Cup or the goalie who catches the puck in his glove and wins the Stanley Cup. There are those who wanted to be a general in our armed forces, even more so the President of the United States.

As kids we allowed our minds to be filled with visions of grandeur. We dreamed of big things to come. Skyscraper big. Then one day...BOOM! It happens. Reality sets in...or does it?
More often than not we create our reality. There is a saying that I detest...I loathe it, "It is what it is." It hurts to even type it. This phrase is a sellout phrase. It's hypocritical. It allows us to walk away from responsibility and shrug our shoulders in defeat. Well, we can't do anything about it anyway so why care?! It's not my problem. I didn't make it this way. What are you gonna do?
These are all phrases that allows us to give up. But why? Our parents, our grandparents and their parents didn't allow this nonsense. Nothing ever was what it was. If there was something that was going on that wasn't good, wasn't right they at least attempted to do something about it. They aspired to make things better. They pushed for change. They rolled up their sleeves, pulled their britches up and did something about it.
As I said before, we create our reality. Look at our world and how much change has been made in the last 200 years. That didn't just happen. Enough people changed their realities to be what they wanted it to be. The signers of the Declaration of Independence, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Jackie Robinson, Roberto Clemente, John F Kennedy, and so many more that the list could be in the hundreds. They changed their realities to make a difference. Who knows who they set out to be when they were children?!
At the end of the day...nothing ever "is what it is", we make our reality what it is, or we allow our reality to take shape. If we sit on our hands and allow the world to pass us by it's our own faults. We have no right to complain. If you long to be that super hero, to change the world, to change your reality, then do it. Be the person you wanted to be all those years ago. No one can stop you if you don't let them.
Be the person you wanted to be when you grew up. It's not too late.
